故事从中尉查尔斯·梅森准备回家过圣诞节开始讲起，梅森所坐的飞机途径新奥尔良时因恶劣天气不得不临时降落，在饭店里他被偶然结识的记者拉到夜总会拉斐特之家游玩，并在那里遇到了歌女杰基·拉蒙特（狄安娜·德宾饰）。在与歌女谈话的过程中，梅森得知对方真正的名字是艾比盖尔·莫奈特，是三年前的杀人犯罗伯特·莫奈特（吉恩·凯利饰）的妻子。伴着阴雨连绵的天气，艾比盖尔一点一点向梅森讲述了她和丈夫是如何相遇相爱的，他们曾经幸福的婚姻又是如何染上鲜血渐渐走向破灭的。。Two sisters, Becca and Rosaline, who have grown apart over the years but through tragic events learn to love and respect one another all over again.
