程纬（周润发饰）是前途无量的大学毕业生，进入公司后，能力颇佳的他深得大老板的赏识，更与老板的女儿方希文（郑裕玲饰）之间产生了真挚的感情，渐渐走到一起。然而程纬的母亲深陷赌瘾之中无法自拔，欠下巨额赌债，为了帮助母亲还债，程纬不得不动了挪用公款的心思。 程纬的行径被一直眼红他的阮其昌（李道洪饰）揭发了，最终，程纬为自己的行为付出了代价，锒铛入狱，他和方希文之间的感情也就此走到了尽头。在狱中，本性善良的程纬很快就交到了朋友，其中就有曾经的黑帮头目龙冠。出狱后，在龙冠的介绍之下，程纬进入了一家珠宝公司工作，人生重新走上了正轨。。An under-appreciated, over worked assistant entrusted with a million dollar necklace races to find out which of his friends betrayed him, as he battles a desperate criminal duo bent on stealing the necklace.
