(Strugatsky Brothers website) NOTES This is a crime / mystery thriller with surreal and psychedelic science fiction overtones based on a book Inspector Glebsky's Puzzle by the Strugatsky brothers. The screenplay was also written by the brothers and it differs from the book. The less you know about the movie the better starting point you have. The film is based largely on the mystery of what's happening to the people of Dead Mountaineer's Hotel. Is everything what it seems? Who's dead or who's not?。孔家庄的一群年轻人劈山引水，改变了家乡缺水的面貌。孔淑贞、李克明从县里学成回村，准备修建水电站，老社长以劳力不足为由表示反对。被提升为副大队长的高占武在公社赵书记的支持下担负起修建水电站的任务。李克明的电站设计图受到众人夸奖，唯独外村来学习的冯巧英批评设计华而不实，为此两人发生争执。谁料这场争论竟使他俩萌发爱情。电站安装告成后，近邻周村电站要求孔家庄帮助设备安装，高占武派孔淑贞和克明前往支援。不巧，孔家庄水电站因技术故障，试车失败，又遭水淹，后经曹茂林查出技术毛病，电站试机成功。正当孔家庄群众欢庆电站首次发电之际，高占武突然接到孔淑贞寄自周村的一封退婚书。群众对此议论纷纷，疑是李克明从中作梗。李克明有口莫辩，幸有曹茂林劝说解围。直至高占武赶至周村，才真相大白，原来孔淑贞因公负伤严重，不愿拖累高占武，故提出解约。在建设家乡共同劳动中建立恋爱关系的三对年轻人，终于在全村欢庆丰收的日子里喜结良缘 。。
