女主赵书瑶为了给父亲筹钱治病答应闺蜜接受了一个冥婚的人物，却在冥婚的过程中多次发现被闺蜜欺骗；先是得知冥婚需要自己是处子之身，又得知原本只是做做样子的冥婚要自己真的和新郎洞房；赵书瑶经过一番纠结后仍接受冥婚，还意外的发现新郎没有死。。亨利（埃德蒙·戈温 Edmund Gwenn 饰）和女儿西尔维娅（凯瑟琳·赫本 Katharine Hepburn 饰）一起过着相依为命的日子。受生活所迫，亨利挪用了公款无法还债，东窗事发之后，他和女儿一起隐姓埋名踏上了逃亡之旅，途中，为了隐藏身份，西尔维娅女扮男装，易名赛尔维斯特。 在逃亡途中，亨利和西尔维娅结识了名为吉米（加里·格兰特 Cary Grant 饰）的男子，吉米也是一个骗子，气味相投一拍即合的一行人结为了旅伴。之后，提尔特（娜塔丽·帕蕾 Natalie Paley 饰）也加入了他们的行列，好笑的是，虽然朝夕相处，但没有一个人能够识破西尔维娅的伪装，直到一位名为迈克尔（布赖恩·艾亨 Brian Aherne 饰）的艺术家出现了。。A film director gathers his favorite actresses, those he worked with and those he loved.
