故事的主角是年轻警探杰特与他的女友。作为一个印第安纳州的菜鸟警察，杰特照例前去参加“扑克之夜”。在“扑克之夜”上，他与州内几位最好的警官一起打扑克，警官们把他们自己遇到的故事，自己的成功和失败告诉他。一日杰特与女友遭到一名凶恶的变态罪犯绑架，头戴面具的绑架犯将两人锁在地下室里，杰特将利用“扑克之夜”上学来的办法，从这场危险的猫鼠游戏中逃出生天，并救出自己的女友。。故事发生在三十年代日军侵华时烽烟弥漫的上海，何堇早年由东北迁徙至此，因为在战乱中她亲生女儿失散，于是她创办了孤儿院春风堂，专门收养抗日志士的遗孤，一方面填补她失去女儿的创痛，另一方面，她则冀望能在茫茫的人海之中，与失散的女儿重逢，然而时光荏苒，二十年匆匆而过，她与女儿冰儿仍是无缘再见一面。。Four young people are enjoying the easy life, cruising on a yacht in the sun.
