ときは戦国時代(せんごくじだい)。 先祖(せんぞ)だいだい、ヒラ忍者(にんじゃ)の家に生まれた 乱太郎(らんたろう)は、一流(いちりゅう)の忍者になってほしいという 両親(りょうしん)のきたいをむねに、 忍術学園(にんじゅつがくえん)に入学(にゅうがく)。 そこには堺(さかい)の豪商(ごうしょう)のむすこ・しんべヱや、 いくさで親(おや)をなくしながらもたくましく生きるきり丸がいた。 忍術学園のせいとは忍者のたまご、『忍たま』とよばれる。 忍術学園には、ナゾの天才(てんさい)忍者だった 学園長(がくえんちょう)をはじめ、 ユニークな先生(せんせい)や上級生(じょうきゅうせい)、 ちょっと手ごわい「くの一教室(きょうしつ)」の女の子たちや 忍犬(にんけん)ヘムヘムなどがいて、とってもにぎやか！。The adventure begins when the loving owners of three irresistible pets (Chance, a fun-loving American bulldog pup| Sassy, a hilarious Himalayan cat who lives up to her name| and Shadow, a wise old golden retriever) are forced to leave them in the temporary care of a friend who lives hundreds of miles away.
