In this very personal film, he uncovers the remarkable story of how these 'birds from paradise' have captivated explorers, naturalists, artists, film-makers...。民国初年，蔡锷为讨伐袁世凯购买了一批军火。袁派两路人马前往云南清波镇，企图劫持、炸毁军火。一路派孙立收买当地恶霸高大虎；一路派韩云山携养女韩美玉暗中监视、指挥孙立。杀手宋光为报高大虎杀兄之仇来到清波镇，并结识了三个同时爱上自己的女人——美玉、秀故、云妹。保安队长张大川为保护军火周旋于各种势力之间，并争取了宋光作为重要力量。各种势力云集清波镇，演出了惊心动魄的杀。最后，袁世凯彻底失败。。
